This course provides students the opportunity to start gaining qualifications that may be more vocational and practical than standard GCSE’s.

This course has been developed to prepare learners for the world of the art and design practitioner. This involves learners becoming familiar with the language, practices and processes of the art and design professional, while developing their own creative skills and expression. The BTEC philosophy of learning through doing is at the heart of this qualification. Learners will be given the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the art and design sector as well as the knowledge and skills which underpin it.
Initially offering two specialist pathways
1: Fashion and Textiles - fine art/textiles –offering a range of workshops in the specialist pathways of design crafts, fashion and textiles and visual arts.
2: Visual Communication - graphic design - taking a 2D/3D visual communications approach, offering workshops in the specialist pathways of 2D software, 3D product design.
There is NO specific written examination in this subject. Students undertake three internally assessed units, and one timed unit that is externally assessed; all unit titles are set by the exam board. Each unit has specified assessment and grading criteria which must be met. A unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit, distinction or distinction*.

The majority of work will be completed within normal contact time, although homework may be used to support unit work.
